  • Do you find yourself wading through your mail some weeks, wondering when you'll ever find time to read all of your magazines and papers? If so, you need to unsubscribe - and save yourself a packet.

  • Even though they seem like a good deal at the time, subscriptions can add up. A yearly subscription to Private Eye costs £30 a year - and The Times and The Sunday Times's subscription works out at £6 a week after their '£8 for 8 weeks' trial ends.

  • Don't forget to check for any digital subscriptions you may have signed up to, and are still being charged for. They're easy to forget about and if you're not getting the most out of your online membership, despite any 'freebies' you may have been offered, bite the bullet and cancel.

  • It doesn't just end with magazines and papers. Do you have a Glossybox or Birchbox which you just ignore every month, or a Spotify account you no longer use? What about food deliveries you end up throwing away, such as Gusto or Hello Fresh? The general rule is - if you don't use it, read it or want it - cancel it.
